Steering wheel in-out play?

Hi Folks, I have a steering issue with my car, and I don't know whether it has been that way or if it is wearing. When I pull on the sterring wheel, in/out in a telescopic motion (towards front then rear of car and back) I can feel a little play by way of a "click" through the wheel. No slop side to side nor up and down (tilt). Just in and out. Does anyone else's car do this? Can it be shimmed? Is this the dreaded steering column replacement issue? If so, do they have to pull the dash to get to it? It is not bad, just annoying to feel when I am driving. If it is normal, or can be shimmed, I am okay with that. I asked another HHR friend if his does this, and his does not. I am making a list of things that need to be addressed before I reach the end of my warrantee. BTW, on an '09, what is the mileage warrantee period? I have 28K miles on Elvis now. Many thanks in advance for any help. God Bless, Marc

You should have 5 year 100,000 mile warranty on the car. I got my 09 august of 08 and that is what she came with. You should be okay on the warranty thing. As for the steering wheel, mine don't move in that motion at all.

The 5 year/100k is the powertrain warranty. You've only got a 3 year/36k bumper-to-bumper warranty

3yr/36,000 & 5 yr /100,000
Both of which begin when first titled.. IIRC ?

My steering wheel makes no movement as you've described.

Although there is no real movement, mine does make a clicking noise if I yank it in and out, its not absolutely tight.
