Steering Wheel Shimmy

Well, I've been noticing a little shimmy in the steering wheel when braking... I'm guessing it's a rotor. And I DO NOT brake hard...AT ALL! Pretty bad since the warranty report I got from ChvyMgr said the brakes were turned and resurfaced before I bought the car in January...

I'll probably take it in one of these days to get it looked at. I'd really like some R1 Concepts, but I'll see what they can do for free first since it still has warranty.

Your rotors, they are warped. Mine had the same problem... at 24,000 miles the wheel shook so bad during braking that I had to hold on with both hands. Took it into the dealer and had both front rotors and pads replaced under warranty.

From what I've heard said by a few other local HHR owners, the front brakes are a weak point in this vehicle... so just keep an eye on them.

If your rotors are warped and have been turned before they may not be able to turn them again.... make sure they measure the thickness. turning a warped rotor may solve the problem it may only be a stop gap measure. once its warped it may continue to warp. If its under warrenty and they are willing to fix it great if not replacement might be a better long term solution.

I know I will need to buy new ones, since they've been turned before. They said that it should be covered, so I might as well wait it out until I need to buy them. And yes Chad, after reviewing them once, I think I liked the looks of the R1 Concepts. Just haven't decided if I want drilled, slotted, or both.

I didnt go with drilled or slotted this time, kinda thought about it and i dont do any kind of racing or crazy stopping so really it wasn't worth the extra cash to me. plus im saving for a Camaro.
