Strange paint issue

Hey everyone, I'm new here. Cool forum!

I just bought an 07 Black HHR LT. I have an odd paint issue in front of the rear wheels. Exactly the same on both sides. The finish is cloudy and dull, and there is no paint between the trim piece and the body. The previous owner said the issue was due to not having splash guards so the road debris hits this part of the body.
I tried a search here, but didn't know how to word it...has anyone seen this before? What do I do to fix it? I want paint on the bare spot, at least.

Thanks,

Joe

Mines starting to do that as well and yes it because of not having the splash gaurds. Pretty much the only way to correct it is to get running boards or ss rockers that way rocks cant hit that area, mud flaps might help a little but not cure the problem.

Not sure if it was this forum or another but I did read a thread about someone getting free running boards from GM for this issue.

It's call sandblasting. Thats why HHR's with out boards have that guard on the rear fenders

So without running boards this is what happens? It looks like the paint totally wore off in the corners...
I need to get this refinished and put boards and splash guards on, I guess.

That is what happens. It is obvious that your rocker panels and the little piece underneath have been repainted. I have done mine many times. Running boards is the only answer...but they were an option, so I doubt they will put them on for free. Todd (Uma)

I have seen a few that managed to get discounted prices on the running boards but never heard of some for free, that would be great if you could.
