My '06 will be getting some new shocks and struts this week. Unusual tire wear even after alignment and rebalance. There are nearly 69K miles on the '06.

Has anyone else had struts/shocks replaced? What was your cost? Seems to be pricey to me, but the mechanic was saying he was having "difficulty" locating replacement parts.

 

Due to GM's financial condition the following should be considerd?

1. ANY of the OEM shocks / struts are built to the MIMINUM specs and prices.

2. Go aftermarket for your best cost and quality.

Get some KYB shocks/struts and have a good local mechanic install them, if you don't DIY. ("good local mechanic" probably doesn't work for the dealership )

You may need to have that alignment re-done though if the struts were really bad.... Shop that did the work should have spotted that.

 

Many shops are using struts that include the springs and mounting plates. Cuts down on installation time and comebacks. Better for DIY too because you don't need a strut compressor.

 

I had to have my struts replaced after only 20,000 miles on my 07 HHR but I also had to have all the cumputers replaced after 25,000 miles because of an electrical problem.

 

I had the mechanic replace with some KYBs once I sent him an email with the information. Too soon to tell, but first impression is they ride stiffer than the originals. Again after 69K miles the originals were more than nit just worn out.

 

From what I've read the KYB HHR parts are like the 2LT sport suspension in firmness, so may feel a little stiff if you have an LS or 1LT but handle better.

 

have a 2007 replace struts and shocks i bought monroe sensatrack they work good also a tip replace the strut mounts two and also check on the stabilizer links too thats the best time to replace them too there like about 27.00 apiece for moog ones after that you will be happy with a nice ride again ,if you want to replace the rears it is easy two bolts that go right into the frame not hard at all,also when you order the struts and shocks both of them will have the same part number for left and right ...good luck

 

Don't know about the '07 but for your '06 if you go with the Monroe struts they do have different part #'s for right and left. They are 72179 and 72180 for the struts and 5779 for the shocks.

 

yea there different part numbers on monreo struts but when you order them they have the same part numbers wich they didn't change it ,trust me i went Thur the same thing when i went to order them ...
