Sudden Acceleration in HHR?

Has this partiucular incident happened in your car? Here in NM, we have this long hill that is on the way to Santa Fe from Albuquerque. It's about 3 miles long.

Now I have had my HHR 2 years and what I am going to describ has occurred many times on this hill and I am curious if anyone else has had it.

I'm on crusie control starting up the hill. most of the time the automatic down shifting into what is more commonly known as "passing gear" works fine get a bit of an rpm increase and all is okay.

Many times it will downshift and the rpms go up by 2000 and sounds like the engine is going to blow! I'm hitting the brakes and trying to shut stuff off and what the His going on nearly losing control.

you ansered this your self, the car is in cruise, 3 mile hill, it dowshifts to compensate for the hill, your getting worried because of engine noise that is normal when downshifing, you freak out and almost loose control, the trans will pick the correct gear fot the hill it must be a steep one!!!!!

it may downshift more than once to a lower gear for the hill!!!

If your road speed stays the same and it doesnt get into the redline rpms on the tach, then there is no problem.
