It seems some owners have successfully put the broken piece back in place with JB Weld (which is not the TSB recommendation.) It was discussed in at least one thread here but I couldn't find it.

First I discovered that I could open and close the sunroof by moving it in small increments while manipulating the deflector. (I have long arms.) Then I realized that just removing the deflector allowed normal opening and closing. Driving without the deflector sucks tho.
The problem is it will not move at all. I have so far spent about 12 hours over the past few days trying to manipulate the sunroof open far enough to get to the deflector or at least see waht is in there. At this point, I am pretty sure it's not jammed, but whatever pulls the sunroof back on that side is broken. I have spent way more time trying to cheat this than if I had just pulled the sunroof out from the start.

It seems no one else has had this exact problem here or on Facebook, so I gave it one last ditch effort. Using plastic trim pry bars and a LOT of back and forth with the switch, I got it to break free, and it opened with a lot of scraping noises. Once open,I found the track to be badly gouged, probably from the hook shaped piece of steel I fished out with a magnet. I smoothed it out with some emery cloth and greased it up. The sunroof now works smooth as new.

I swear, whenever I have a problem with a vehicle that isn't super obvious, it's also something no one else has ever seen.

The wind deflector is fine, I think something just got in the track when the sunroof was open. I use the full open more often than the vent position.

The tools used

Gouged up track

clean track on driver side for comparison

Glad you got it to work. Hoping for a pic of the "hook shaped" piece. Does the deflector work?

Can't find the piece I fished out with the magnet, I dropped it when I was trying to get a pic. But, it's been a few days and it still works, so I'll take it.
