Tail Gate Dents
#51
The respect to the paintless dent repair (popping out the dent) would it leave the area any more vulnerable to dents in the future? It seems to be an area that easily dents as a result of some sort design issue. Either the area just doesn't have enough support or the area is weakened by the design or the bar creates some sort of pressure point (or whatever.) If the area has been dented in and then "sucked" back out by paintless dent repair would that leave the area even weaker?

yes metal has memory, if u just pull it out the metal will be weaker and if someone pushes it again it will go back to the way it was dented before. look at those butt bumps people do when the door doesnt colse all the way and they push it in with their body and it leaves a big dent...well if u pop the dents out they will go back in after awhile

If you heat it you are in for a lot of trouble From paint damage to warped metal.
The truth is many shops remove small dents with cold. Dry Ice and cold treatments can remove dents with no other damage.
The point on the tailgate is if you get it fixed don't keep shutting it the same way you were. Even if you replace the gate your going to dent it again if you repeat what you did in the first place.
The bottom line was the metal was too weak to take you pushing on it to begin with so why would you do the same thing again? Slam it shut with the handle or pust on the plate. It it does not latch open it and slam it again and don't push on it.
Pretend the bow tie bar is hot and you already got burned!!!!

I haven't got these on mine. Though after having had quite a few hatchbacks in the past, I've learned not to ever slam the hatch. That's mostly to prevent rattles because slamming can cause the latch to move out of adjustment. I also never push on any trim such as the beauty bar. I generally just grab the bottom of the hatch and pull it down, then when it's low enough I push on the area below the rear window wiper to close it.
