Temp reading

The temperature on the dash, (the outside air temp), always reads 77. It worked ok now all of a sudden it wont go off 77. Any ideas why?

Thanks.

There is another thread somewhere on this board, with lots of posts about this. As I recall, you have to drive over 18 MPH without slowing below that speed for fifteen minutes before the OAT indicator will reset, at least if its warmer than its reading. I think most of us have the same problem, if you are only driving city driving.

Brucet,

Yours is broke. Needs a sensor, a wiring repair, a reprogram or a BCM.

Can it be reprogramed to respond quicker? Mine will eventually reset, but as I said, if I'm driving city only, the oat is pretty useless. On the freeway its great. What would I ask the dealer to do?

Its not broke. Its what Lago said. It cannot be adjusted by the dealer or anyone else. Very annoying if you ask me. They probably saved $3 by using the limited temp sensor as opposed to the real time sensor in the more expensive vehicles. The one in my Trailblazer updates in real time, no matter how fast I'm going, even standing still.

If it always stays on 77° it's broke. Or it's always 77°.

There might be an updated program for it. Only a GM tech can check to see what the current program is and what the latest greatest is.

Ours has been stuck at 56 for a longer than a week on more than one occasion. The dealer gave us a print out of how it works, which didn't convince me that it was working right. It hasn't done it for several months now.
