Temperature
I purchased a 2009 HHR Panel last week and now have a problem. When I left for work this morning the temp was -6C and the car started and ran normally. About half way into my 40 mile commute the temp gauge and the digital display went to 0 and no indication on the display. The heater is blowing hot air, I can see no sign of a leak and the rad appears to be full.
I have no idea where to look so does anyone have a suggestion.
Thanks

T-stat failure IT is opening to late and the computer is confused( control freak) replace the T-stat with a GM one, as many have found and reported that the aftermarket ones ( Murray, Stanton, Moto Rad ) will give the same issue of opening at the wrong temp and causing a code.
While you are at it drain the rad and refill with Dexcool that's what it's designed for.

Typically it is caused by the thermostat's gasket that is on the movable valve in the thermostat, breaking down and jamming the thermostat OPEN (it not opening too late - it's jammed open). This caused the engine not to reach operating temperature within the computers monitoring parameters. You will likely find that once you shut it off after a good drive, that an hour later when you start it up again, that all returns to normal, only to occur again after it sits overnight.
It will also SOMETIMES light up the CEL with a code of P0128 (but not always - all depends on the specific circumstances).
Oh, the A/C is also disabled when it occurs as well.
Here is a how-to on replacing the thermostat - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...l-p0128-24493/

Thanks everyone, I've been in little panic but now it doesn't sound bad. Does the plastic engine cover just pull off.
The car is halfway between work and home so I won't get back there till Wednesday. Is it safe to drive this way or should I have it towed.

There is a plastic black cover that says Ecotec on it. It sits right on top of the engine.
Its in a parking lot and I wasn't sure what was wrong so I parked. Didn't want to drive it and ruin the engine till I had more info. I'm not all that mechanically minded.
