Third brake light not working

Hey all. I have read numerous threads both here and other sites. I can not lick this one. 2010 Chevy HHR. Cruise is out, and no third brake light. Supposedly if the third light is out the cruise wont work. The bulbs tested fine with a meter, and the sockets are clean. Checked for power with a multimeter, and nothing. The left, and right brake lights work fine. I tried testing with the hazard switch, and still nothing.....no third light but left, and right blink. Checked the number 9 fuse on the passenger side fuse block. Checked good.... Did I miss something? Any help would be appreciated.

Steve

P.S. The rear hatch is not fully latching. Started around the same time. Will latch but not all the way. It locks, and the electric handle release works.

Page 6-124 in your owner manual.

A Center High-Mounted Stoplamp Relay, and a Rear
Access Panel Door Interlock Relay (Panel Van only),
are located underhood in front of the left shock tower.

Check this relay.

I will check it tomorrow. Thanks for the info. Driving me nuts. Conflicting posts online about which fuse or relay, and locations. Frustrating.

fuse #11 underhood should be vacant.
Not conflicting, changes between years/models.

Check the wires in the accordion conduit to the hatch. I bet the tag lights don't work.

ALL brake lights are working. Marker lights work. Turn signals work. Someone had mentioned that the third light should blink when the hazards are turned on. It does not but it works with the brake pedal. Yes, I have a CEL light on. Checked codes. A couple of emission ones but it did have a "Trans Control Sys Malfunction." Code 0700. Car drives fine though. Ideas???

Certain codes will disable the cruise control (safety feature).
3rd brake light does not flash with the hazards.
Fix the code issues and you should get the cruise back.

TKS, I will look into the code issues. Love the cryptic descriptions they give. Would be nice if it was a little warmer....hehehhe

A. why not mention the codes? they are most likely the problem.
B. slight possibility; are ALL of the bulbs in the CHMSL working?
C. The wiring diagram shows the that the relay also goes to the TCM and the ECM. That is why the CHMSL ust be working for the cruise to work.

\Post the code numbers. We will gladly explain them.
