Is anyone else having trouble keeping air pressure in their tires? I have the 17" highly polished wheels. I lost the right front one last week to a speed bump and low pressure and when I was returning home from the tire shop this evening I noticed the left front was low (didn't register any pressure on the gauge). I refilled it and I cannot identify a leak. Since this is a new problem I wonder if the change in weather could be causing this? We just went from a (relatively) cold spell to comfy temps in the 70's. I am already out $132.72 to replace the one wheel and I am desperate to not repeat the experience. Any thoughts?

 

Haven't noticed any probs w/ mine. Temp between Orlando and Miami not much different, also have the bright chrome. Just cause you don't notice a leak doesn't mean it's not there. I suggest refilling the tire to proper pressure and check it on a daily basis.

 

Yeah...I have kind of the same problem.....

Same wheels, 17" polished, and the porosity of the aluminum is a concern. GM does have a TSB on it. But like all things, it has to be a extreme change for them to do anything......and they need to experience it, through testing.

I, NOW, check the tire pressure once a week, in the morning, before driving the car. Sometimes I add 1 or 2 pounds, sometimes nothing (my air gauge is a certified unit, to 1/4 psi).

Oh, and you are correct about the ambient temperature change affecting tire pressure...according to GM Engineering.

 

I hope this is not a northern and southern air thingie..... Seriously would something along the line of a liquid tire seal you could put in the tire help? yep dumb question......................................

 

If changing weather affected tires, I`d be riding the rotors.
Our weather changes daily here, the saying is "If you don`t like the weather, just wait, it`ll change".

 

Have you seen the finish on the polished rims where the tire bead is?

 

Do you park in a garage, if not , maybe some one is letting your air out.
I doubt if the rim is porous, probably has some sorta coating inside, to prevent seepage.
Did you damage rims?

 

You can get tire pressure indicators at any of the major auto parts stores that screw onto the tire valve. They come in various pressure ratings and will show you at a glance if a tire is low.

If this is true, it`s a bad sign, there`s got to be millions of aluminum wheels on thr road.
That`s ridiculous.
