Trans problem

All of those noises you describe don't sound at all like axles. More like end links or LCA bushings. It is difficult to see the LCA bushings. Test by putting the car in park then try to roll the front tires; if the tires move and the body doesn't they are bad.
That banging on wheel noise could be a bearing.
We had one instance where a mechanic installed new axles and left the stub out.
Anyway, presuming damage to the trans from bad motor mounts is ridiculous unless there was no rubber left for a long time; and then pretty strange.

Had the car checked at a transmission shop and they said that nothing looked bad there. Since the entire front end has been changed-springs, shocks, swaybar end link bushings, and both LCA were recently changed and look good, they think it may be the bushings for the subframe.

Lee go back to https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...rt-6037/page2/ and post the resolution.

Good point. The trans shop told me that there were rubber bushings with metal sleeves inside and when the rubber got worn out, the metal to metal made noise.
I will check the tightness of the LCA bolts. Do you happen to know the proper torque? Thanks
