Transmission

If he only put 1 gallon in it is nearly 1 gallon short of full; it should have taken 7 qts.
I would check the level first. It would be nice to know what was put in, I can't believe somebody just walked into the store and didn't notice there were several different types of fluid. Either type of DEXRON is OK. If he put something else in you are going to need a complete flush and fill.
The good news is the solenoids are replaceable for less than a new trans.

A complete load of ATF is 12 qts, what you replace at home is only 7 qts, if you have it flushed ALL of the fluid gets replaced. Any decent shop can do it, just tell them somebody put an unknown type of ATF in it.

He cant find the container I guess he threw it away, but I went to auto zone today and put it on code reader, it pulled codes: p0741 torque converter solenoid circuit performance or stuck off. And p0757 shift solenoid b stuck on . So my question is do I try changing fluid and filter first to see if that fixes it and these aren't a false read or?
Besides that. If it would go gear, why would you drive it ? Was already discussed that with the wrong fluid you could damage or burn up the transmission.
And "He can't find the container". Well, why not just go to that store with him and tell him to point out the kind that he used.

Wait. What ? How did you drive it to Auto Zone ? Thought this whole thread started with a fluid change and the car won't go in drive.

I would recommend NOT driving it, as I stated earlier if you are low on fluid this will most DEFINATELY kill your transmission. At the very least, drain the transmission and refill with cheap Dextron III. It takes about 7 quarts. Once you have checked for proper level, take it for a quick test drive and report back.
