Transmission

Hello. I recently inherited a 2011 HHR LT automatic that will not move. The engine starts fine but there is a whining noise. I can shift through the gears but none of them engage. I've checked the fluid level and it appears to be fine with drips at the level plug when warm. The only CEL codes are P0010 & P0013. I don't have any background info on the vehicle so I'm wondering if there is anything else that I could check to help determine if it is indeed a bad transmission.

Welcome to the site, let’s see now,
P0010 and P0013 would be the cam solenoid for the VVT

https://www.google.ca/search?q=P0010...&client=safari

https://www.google.ca/search?q=P0013...&client=safari

replace those , we have a discount from RockAuto

let’s start there.

when you change these, disconnect the negative terminal on the battery

read this first

The whining noise could be a bad torque converter.

Could be a broken shifter, or broken or disconnected cables.

It could be a torque converter pressure solenoid or fluid pump

A whining noise usually points to a pump fluid starvation problem. I would suggest dropping the pan and checking the filter. Small chance that the filter is clogged. A more likely scenario would be the filter and/or the metal pipe has somehow come loose.
Any chance the pan is dented ? Someone jumped a curb or something ?

The car has a few other parts needed (i.e. interior door handles) so I'm going to make a list of everything and order it all at once to save on shipping. I really appreciate the heads up on the Rockauto code. My only question, would these cause the issues I'm facing? The engine starts and idles without any problems and I don't hear or feel any kind of RPM/idle change when moving from park or neutral.

The pan looks fine but I'm going to drop it regardless and inspect for metal buildup. It'll also give me a chance to inspect the lines as that appears to be pretty common.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

No, those two codes would not have anything at all to do with the transmission issue.

No, the codes won’t resolve the noise , but will address the codes you posted.

I agree with George.
A broken shift cable won't make the trans noise and the two codes you have won't either.
