Angry Unable to turn off my HHR!

I got home earlier today and parked my car, but was unable to turn the key towards me to turn the car off. Tried everything, husband also tried. Just got back from leaving the car at my dealership running.
I feel like this must have something to do with the ignition recall. Has this happend to anyone here? Desperately hoping this will be covered. My 2009 HHR has 80,000 miles. THis is the first problem I have ever had!

Yup - a few people have had the same problem. Did you read in the Owners Manual the section on how to remove the key using the small plug on the bottom of the steering column?

It's nothing to do with the ignition recall. It's a separate issue.

Key stuck, couldn't turn off my car. Yup, happened to me also.

About 1 1/2 years ago, my HHR had just under 30,000 miles. I pulled up to the grocery store on a Sat. evening and could not turn off my car, the key stuck. Drove to my dealership, Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix, AZ. Of course the service dept was closed, but thought the people on the sales floor might be able to contact someone who could tell them how to disable the car. I was told to let the car run out of gas. What idiots. I drove the car home, called the 1-800 Chevy number, arranged for a tow. They came and pulled the fuel pump relay, disconnected the battery, towed it to storage until taking it back to the dealership the next day. It was fixed under warranty. Fast forward to this whole ignition switch recall mess. I called the dealership to order my parts in early May. A month later, I checked back, and was told it would be another 4-6 weeks. Still waiting. I did happen to tell the person at the dealership about my earlier problem with the key stuck in the ignition. He told me that if I had paid for that repair, it would be refunded. So if any of you had to pay for that repair, ask about a refund!

2008 HHR LT same problem would not shut off

I had the same problem the car would not shut off. After many tries it final shot the engine off but it would not shut the battery off. The key would not come out of the ignition or power off the battery finally died. I called the dealership the next day and the jumped it and towed it to the dealer. It was all covered under the warranty recall. They replace the ignition wires under the Recall and it took 59 days plus they provided a free 2014 Equinox loaner car. JUST GOT IT BACK TODAY.

Wires are not part of the recall. Ignition switch and key cylinder are.

I had the exact same problem 2+ months ago. Called the local Chevy dealer and they They took my VIN and owner info, then told me to park it and gave me a loaner vehicle.
They ordered the part (ignition cylinder) which took about 4 weeks.
Once they received the part, it took a day to install it and all was well.
$0.00 cost to me.
Tks GM!

Just had this problem myself. But, it happened after the ignition recall was performed. 8 years and 92000 miles and not a problem until the recall work was done. Then 3 days later the key won't come back to the off position to let the key out. Take it back to the dealer Wednesday. I hope it won't be another 4 weeks for a new lock and tumbler to come in.
