My 2009 HHR 2LT(17 inch rims) has 16,500 miles on it.The outside edges of the tires are worn almost down to the wear bars but the rest of the tire tread still looks good.Most of my driving is around town type of driving,very rarely highway driving.I always keep an eye on my tire pressure.So I know it is not that.Must need an alignment I am thinking.Any thoughts?

 

that sounds like a caster/camber issue...if your still under bumper to bumper warranty, then you should have it looked at...

An alignment is not really needed on these unless something is bent or broke. Hit any curbs hard?

Agree probably a camber issue.

Question....what tires come on your HHR? Are they the Firestone affinity's?

I am past the 3 year bumper to bumper but within the 5 year power train.I will be taking it in to the dealer probably tomorrow or the next day.I doubt the warranty will cover it if it is just an alignment issue.

 

Alignments are only covered by GM warranty for the first 7500 miles.

Cause I put over 60k on my. Original tires. Only 16 inch rims though. You should be able to take it into a local tire shop too. I know down here tire kingdom will do a free alignment check.

 

Somebody has done an alignment previously, when they should not have, or a bent tie rod end giving the wrong toe setting. Both fronts wearing on the outside equally indicates excessive toe in. Unless the same alignment guy fiddled with the camber using a bad machine or wrong numbers. If they had added the camber kit you would know it since they would have charged you around $100 over the alignment fee for the $4.00 in parts and 10 minutes labor.

The only routine setting that can be changed on a stock HHR alignment is TOE.

Uneven tire wear - is the result of uneven / incorrect position of the wheels.
In turn, the cause of the uneven position of the wheels - is need to looking. The guys are right: camber - toe, bending parts, misalignment of the body after the accident, etc.
