Unique problem

I own a chevy HHR LS 2006 and I need to make a repair but I can't figure out what the part is called. At the very back of the engine, there is a vertical bar that goes form the upper portion (the plastic covering) and attaches to a solid metal section below. So if you are looking at the engine and step to the left and look behind the plastic covering you will see this vertical bar. Today as I was driving I heard a knocking sound and I opened the hood and that vertical metal bar is sheared off. From the looks of it it is one solid piece and I have no idea how it sheared into two parts. It isn't an engine mount but some type of bracket, but I can't figure out what it is so that I can replace it.

Any help would be appreciated, as it is night here, I can definitely upload a picture if that would be helpful.

Sounds like the rear bracket for the air filter housing mount. Easy enough to order from your Chevy dealer, or to fabricate a replacement yourself. A few members have had it break on them and they either just replaced it, repaired it, or made a new one themselves.

Thanks

It could be the mount. It doesn't quite look like the picture. I will upload the picture once the system allows me to have attachments.

It is not a unique problem. The problem is you have not taken the time to find a name for "the plastic covering". It called an "air filter housing". I believe there is a diagram in the Owners Manual identifying the various parts under the hood. In my 2011 book it's on page 6-14.

Information

Thank you. It does appear to be the mount behind it. I was not aware of how common a problem it was (is). This is what it looks like at the moment. This is the passenger's side and it is pretty much in two, right at the bolt. I have to remove the air filter housing to get back there to really see what else is going on. I imagine that it shouldn't be that difficult. I apologize for not naming the parts correctly. Frustrating day yesterday because my dryer went out as well and I had to take that apart to fix it. lol. One of those weekends!!!

No apology needed. The pictures are in the Owners Manual for just that purpose.

If I said that I replaced that metal thing that comes out the back of the engine with 2 bumps in it would you have a clue what I meant? That's what my wife calls the catalytic converter.

Understood Donbrew...understood.

See if I can find the part..knock out this repair and get her back on the road without having to avoid speed bumps.

Thanks for hopping in on this Don!

I was having one of those "can't be three places at once" days, so my apologies for the late reply to your PM Skegeehump.
