vacuum leak

06 LT 2.4 232xxx

I am having performance issues, although I am not getting a code. It has slowly been loosing its "get up and go" and is quite sluggish sometimes now and my gas mileage has been shrinking slowing since the beginning of this year, I kind of calked it up to just having so many miles on it but recently had to do some work on it so I figured I would clean the throttle body while I was there and I saw a hose coming from under the throttle body leading to somewhere. I figured I could just take it off and blow down it to see if it had any clogs or anything and when I did I could hear air hissing out. I followed the sound and it was coming from what I guess is a check valve in the brake booster? The air is coming from what I guess is a crack in the housing and hasn't been enough to throw a code, but enough to notice it. I'm posting this because I didn't see anything about this from searching it and wanted to know if I needed to replace this part or if it is supposed to have air flow from here?

That could be a vac leak. It is a check valve. It supplies vac to the brake booster.

The part is $5 at Amazon so I'll just replace it. If it's a one way valve and air is coming through that little slit at the bottom it probably needs replacing

Please post the link to Amazon for that part, and let us know if it resolves the performance issues.

Today I checked it out with the engine running. Could hear the hiss, put my finger on it and it definitely is leaking.

FYI. Your local auto parts store may carry that part. Look in their HELP section. I know the Dorman brand has all sorts of vacuum parts.
May save you having to wait for one to be delivered.

Following! Makes me want to check mine, too. Whats your average MPG at compared to where it used to be?

Those check valves are all the same, except for configuration. There are T, 90*, and straight-through configurations. Bosch makes them in Mexico for all of the Big 3 and more...

Vacuum leaks will make it run rough or maybe even stall if big enough.

Replacing the part certainly made the hiss go away and it idle smoother. The performance is about the same though I only took it on two short drives, only time will tell if it helps with the mpg. I was getting about 18mpg, at the start of the year I was averaging around 23. I keep a log of my gas and miles every time I fill up for work purposes on a spread sheet that shows my mpg each tank so I have more history than just what the car says. It just has been getting worse but it leveled out at 18. (This is all in town driving, not much highway or long distance, mostly stop and go) Anyway, here is a pic of the old part, you can see it was needing replacing, I do not know how long it has been like this or if it truly will make an impact on performance or mpg overall.

Good thing it’s replaced . How’s about a follow up in a week or tankful
