I'm tending to agree with you that leaky valve guides can't be diagnosed with a leak down test. I'd like to hear sleeper's theory, though.

It can tell one if it's the guides, or the rings. You just have to listen during the testing.
How, when both are closed for a leak down test?
I guess it's time to show how a leak down test is done.

I think that you can do a leakdown test by pulling the air on the other side of the valves, using a plug and a vacuum. Not really a leakdown test though, and only done when the head is off the motor and sitting on the bench. Or at least that is the way I remember it being done, and then I'm still not sure if that shows up the worn guide. Just throwing that out there. But I'm going with the rest of you on this.
