Don't buy R1

I tried R1 Concepts drilled rotors. They suck!

Why do you say that? My Concepts lasted longer than my EBC rotors. But several months ago I broke down and brought it to a shop my family has been going to for years (and I have gotten very friendly with the owner and mechanics). I was originally just going to have my Concept rotors cut, but that actually made the vibration worse so I let them put on plain standard rotors. So far, so good. And if the problem comes back, it is up to them to figure it out now. But the Concept were very thick and looked like they were high quality (even the mechanics thought so).

R1 Concept rotors with EBC green pads 2 years ago and they have worked flawlessly since, nary a shimmy or shake. Also show very little sign of scoring or rust on the rotors. A lot has to do with the break in, I followed recommendations to a Tee to burnish the pads and rotors. Would not hesitate to use them again.

Rotors FIXED

Well I read more threads about rotor problems... same problems I had until I gave in and bought aftermarket drilled & slotted (next time WON"T be slotted) front rotors... and I have 56K on my beauty. I've just celebrated 4 yrs of ownership (4/4/06) with a car that I'm still not tired of driving or looking at. That after GM now offers victory red for any HHR. I especially liked my '06 Spring Edition because for a while at least, I had the only RED one in the area.
ANYWHOO.... I love mine! and will keep it for a while until someone comes up with another retro-style vehicle that hits my hot button.

4th time in for steering wheel vibration upon braking. 2 resurfaces and 1 replaced set of rotors...The last set was replaced at 24k and I now have 45,000 miles on the new set..Dealer wants $100 to resurface the rotors. GM claims 12 months/12k warranty. I read this on this thread-----
Well you didn't hear this from me. Rotors are covered by GM for 3 years or
36k miles. Pads are covered for 2 years or 24k miles. Make sure that when your dealership or anyone turns or replaces your rotors they check what is called lateral run out. I know that we check it at my dealer and have eliminated 98% of returns for brake pulsation. For those who do not know what lateral run out is I will explain. We have a dial indicator that hooks to the vehicle and has a pin that sits on the rotor, as you turn the hub the rotor sits on it measures differences in height as the rotor turns. We use shims to level out any differences after machining or replacing rotors. GM has issued a bulletin to dealers to advise them to use the shims to elimnate the wobbling in the rotor that over time can cause a pulsation. While more expensive rotors are machined better at the factory, you can still get a pulsation from an improperly torqued rim. That is why all my techs are required to use torque sticks when tightening lug nuts, they also have to check the lugs again once on the ground with a torque wrench. Remember to always ask to see the Lateral run out specs on the rotor, and whenever possible watch when they put the wheels back on to make sure they are using torque sticks and/or torque wrenches. Hope this helps and didn't mean to be long winded. --

I have become convinced that many of the "warped rotor" issues are really hub/bearing issues, After I replaced my hubs the vibrations went away, and even though they were roaring and clunking I cannot discern any wear comparing the old parts to the new. I have not found any test for front bearing wear, if anyone knows of the specs please post somewhere.

I bought the R1rotors so I would never have to worry about the rotors again. Not so. They warped with in the first 3 months. R1 customer service is a joke. I a pulling them off today replacing with a plain set form the local parts store. Now I will have a spare set. I am also replacing the passernger side sway bar link and if I can get the part from the dealer I will be replacing the shifter. I love the car. I hate GM Quality. I wish Ford made this car!

Thumbs up Brakes and rotors

2 weeks ago i had the 27 point inspection and oil change a little over 43000 miles the dealer said brakes are at 50% have had no problums.

Question Are the Brake parts the same thru 2010

Did GM change any of the front brake parts or rotor thickness' in later years (like 2009 or 2010 models)??

Just wondering if they saw this problem and adjusted the parts or just kept using the same old parts hoping for a different result (INSANITY)

Reason is, I have an 09' LT2 and hope I don't see the same problems!
