I think your service place is your bad guy not GM or the dealer if that is where you had it done

 

I would say that it is a good possibility that whoever rotated the tires either overtorqued the lug nuts, torqued them unevenly, or did both. It is difficult to be certain, but it looks suspicious. I would go somewhere else for the tire rotation in the future, or complain to the dealer about it if they did it.

 

!7000Kms on mine. Had the rotors turned once, and replaced once. I have had a few minor issues that the dealer fixed, no problems, no charge. GM Canada sends a survey everytime. The dealer even washes the car for me. I love my HHR and The people at McGee Motors in Goderich! I have given them kudos before and they have earned it. Getting the right dealer is as important as getting the right car. You at least got 1 of them right ( the car).

 

Here's why I don't let dealerships TOUCH my vehicles, unless it's a recall or something that I absolutely CAN'T do at home...like front end alignments. Sometimes these yahoos make things WORSE and create new problems...find a shop or dealership that can be trusted...a daunting task. If you can't do basic work/service yourself, ask friends where they go. Don't blame the vehicle...it's basically a GOOD design. As others have said, why dump it when you can put quality aftermarket rotors & pads on it? But even high quality parts can be F###ED up by incompetence!

I can't and won't speak for other dealers but at least we use torque sticks. Even during a simple tire rotation and our customers don't come back with warped rotors. I usually try to stay out of these type of product complaint threads, but I am going to chime in on this one. GM rotors suck and thats all there is to it, especially on smaller vehicles. But when people working on your vehicle don't know what they are doing you get results such as these. Under normal driving and PROPER maintenance these rotors should last a long long time.

 

I do agree with this theory and I think this is the major problem I'm dealing with. That's why I'm going to take the HHR to another dealer and see if they do a better job. Unfortunately, the Equinox is under a dealer extended warranty so we are stuck. It is a shame that the people who are supposed to be experts can be your worst nightmare. It makes you feel lost when it comes to finding a repair place of any kind. Guess that's why I've always had old cars and worked on them myself before the HHR.

But....a car less than a year old that's taken care of should not have problems with vibrations and rattles. Just my 2 cents.

I'm trying guys. I really love the car. It's beautiful. But man I'm tired of taking it in.

Will changing to aftermarket rotors effect the factory warranty in any way? I'm already nervous with the K&N and leveling springs. I get funny looks everytime its in. Will they hold up to less than perfect torqueing?

 

Aftermarket rotors do not void the warranty. Most are made of better material and therefore more durable, so warping is usually not an issue. They are usually heavier and as with any mod, adding weight to the vehicle, could affect current fuel economy.

Have you thought of contacting the repair shop that rotated the tires and see if they would be a player in fixing the rotors?

 

So burbhhr there you go lots of good info so put on some new rotors have the wheel nuts torqued to spec and give the HHR 1 more try.If everything else is ok with your car this is a very cheap fix compared to trading it out and taking a big hit on a trade in.
