I have been battling this leak for over a year and a half. First it was a split drain tube from the sun roof, fixed and all was well for a few months. Then it started again and the battle of the ridiculous small town service dept ensued. I took it in 3 more times to them and after being without my car (after showing up for a scheduled appointment) for 4 days (that time) and seeing that it had never been moved from where I parked it, and being told rudely that if I had bought it there they would get to it sooner, I finally asked for my keys and took the car. I drove the 40 miles back to where I bought the car and there they found the cowl leak and the body seam leak and fixed those. It was much better but still had a small leak, in the meantime the front end started clunking and the rotors were warped so back it went. That time they could not get it to leak (try listening to the customer and parking it front down) but replaced the front axles and fixed the rotors. Ok things are better, drove home and parked, OMG there is a big dent in the right front fender just above the headlight. Looks like someone leaned too hard on it and the idiot mechanic took a screwdriver and tried to pop it back out so instead of a huge smooth dent there is a smaller one with screwdriver marks in it. Took it back and showed them, yes they agree that was what must have happened and apologetically they schedule an appt for the body work. It rained the night before taking it in and leaked so I show the guy and he says oh yeah it's leaking. So the body guy is awesome fixed the dent so you really can't tell it was ever there without having to do any paint work but they can't find the leak. I look at the car and say sitting level like that it won't ever leak and try spraying water on the passenger door area instead of the windshield. They actually did what I told them and not 10 minutes they find the leak on an air deflector? Last night that bad nasty storm blew through here and we got a LOT of rain and this morning my car is dry as a bone. WHEW I think they finally fixed it.
The car is great if only service depts were as good. I do have to say that Adcox Chevrolet in Chattanooga is pretty good and very professional, yes they did make a few mistakes but they fixed them at no charge to me and treated me like I mattered to them.

 

It took Parkway Chevrolet in Tomball, Texas three times to fix my water leak. They did replace my carpet and floor mats this last time. The problem is now they have asked me to find another dealership because I my too demanding and will settle for nothing less than perfection. They tell me I will never be happy and they have bent over backward to satisfy me. If they could have done the job right the first time I would have been satisfied.

I recently took a job with a Chevrolet Dealership so being kicked out of Parkway really does not bother me, but others should know how they deal with problems. I have purchased 4 vehicles from Parkway.

Anyone in the Houston area should stay away from Parkway unless they too want their special treatment.

well, had a leak about 6 months ago, didn't think to much about it, because it was in the winter and I figured much of the water was from snowy boots...etc

I had a soaked floor a couple times in the winter, then it mysteriously went away, including through some heavy rain, then yesterday, it came back again....with a vengence. I came into my HHR to find about 1-2 inches of water (I have the catch all mats...and they caught all...LOL). After reading this thread, I went out to the car, lifted the cowl peice and found that cowl patch collapsed into the cowl. Tonight when I get home I'll put it back inplace and re-seal it (the car is out of warranty...so I'm stuck doing things myself I guess). Hopefully this is the reason for the water leak

This thread really helped. The sad part is I took the car in a few months ago, and they pleaded stupid, and said they couldn't find it...... typical GM service

 

Just a quick update. After two straight days of rain, the passenger side is still bone dry. Duct Tape FTW ! LOL

Called my GM service advisor to let them know, as they seemed to be stumped about this problem, but appreciated the feedback. They admitted they have had a few come in, and have had zero luck in figuring it out. Including one lady who I was waiting for them as I spoke. I even found out, a couple of the mechanics noted the collapsed water deflector cover, but didn't think it had an effect, as they didn't think water could run down into the cabin filter due tot he ridge around the inlet. What they didn't realize is that if the cover collapses just right, it actually deflects water right off the windshild and right into the hole for the cabin filter.

I also spoke with the parts guy about the replacement cover (mine duct taped on for now, so I want to look into a new one). Turns out GM does know about the issue, as they have issued a revised design (and new part number). The 2007's likely do not have the issue like the 2006's

You need a new dealership to work on your HHR. That bulletin was released last summer and updated in November 2007. We have fixed hundreds of them by replacing the butyl patch.

I was about to post the same info and suggest the same change.

I might add..... that almost EVERY MONTH since the original bulletin post, GM has restated the fix in the monthy "Do it Correct the First Time" message.

 

I started getting water on the passenger floorboard as well. I took the wipers and the cover off and there was no patch at all. I could see the cabin filter and where standing water had been. I'm actually scheduled to take it to the dealer on Friday. Guess I should have searched here first, since they said they had never had a problem like this before. Is there a TSB or something I can show them? I don't want them to have my HHR any longer than necessary. Or if the problem is just that $5 piece, I'd rather do it.

 

Add another leaky '07. Bad storm here in toledo and had about an inch of water sitting in the pass side foot well. schedueled at dave white chevy to have it looked at nest thursday. Theres only about 3k left on tghe bumper to bumper as i bout it used. How did other people get their warranty extended if the problem persisted?

 

If it is fixed by the instructions in the bulletin, you shouldn't have any further problems. If it re-occurs contact the service manager. They will have a record of the repair.

 

the gasket under the wiper cowl is falling off. that has to be it.
