Went to go to my daughter school tonight for a PTA meeting, backed out of the garage (been parked all day). Went to take off down the road and whole car started shaking. Thought at first, I put it in 3rd by mistake and it's a slight uphill from my house. Nope, in 1st. CEL starts to flash and it's running rough, and no power. Took it down the road for a short way to see what would happen, staying the same. SO I turned around and headed back to the house. SOunds horrible, and again, no power. 83K miles.

Any thoughts? No previous indications except one day last week it stalled taking off from a light. Hard time getting it restarted, but it did and ran fine afterwards.

 

What code? Sounds like a fuel related issue.

 

I don't have a code reader here and with a flashing CEL I'm not going to run out and locate one right now. Steady on, sure, flashing, always been told don't run unless you have to.

I just pulled the plugs and although worn, still see clean marks from spark. Local shop I use for things I don't want to do is close, but already closed today. Guess I'll be at the door at 8 when they open.....

 

i would put money on it being a P0300 thru P0304 Random cyl misfire up to just #4 misfire. it could be a coil pack (has it been raining?) or an injector, fuel pump etc. Sadly with out the code as said before there isnt much that can be done. let us know in the morning im curious as well. And i do hope it is a cheap fix.

Says in owners manual flashing is a misfire. Mine was a bad connection on a coil, #4 to be exact. Don't drive too much while it's like that, it will dump fuel like mad.

 

If it was still running ok I'd just run to get the codes. But I was wondining if I was going to make it back. Power was gone. Sounds like hell. Odds are it's a coil and/or plugs. But no way to know without the codes. I'm going to try and make it to my local shop by 8 this morning. We had a light rain recently, but not bad while I was out in it. I keep thinking that stall that happened a week or so ago, probably the first sign and since it ran fine after, I just blew it off. Well, 6 years and 83K miles. Other than brakes, the first time I've had an actual mechanical issue. We'll see what the doc says in a little while.

 

Well got it to the shop. Man it is running like crap. Hard to believe when I parked it Monday evening it was running fine, the next time I start it....


Just waiting now on the results.

 

Ignition control module, plugs, thermostat

Plugs didn't suprise me, but the other two did. Temp was running cold, guessing stuck open. Getting a free flush out of the deal....lol

They also told me my brakes were at the squealers. Told them I have that covered. Guess the SS rotors are going on this weekend.

Just wondering. Why would they notice a brake issue when it was there for a CEL/running bad problem?
