Well that was a new sound

Loaned the HHR to my bother over the weekend due to a family death. He traveled in from California for the funeral and put about 600-700 miles on it over the weekend. He came back to the house last night and then I drove them back to the airport. When I got back in my neighborhood, I noticed a groning sound when I braked. Checked the rotors out and they are clean with no grooves on them either side. I'll be back in it tonight when I pick up my daughter from gymnastics and will be listening for it again. Only did it while braking. My first though is one of the hubs. 72K miles right now and they are the originals.

And if anyone is wondering, one of my older brothers died last Wednesday and the funeral was over the weekend. He was 55 and we haven't heard the cause of death yet. But he was in a lot of pain that stemmed from an accident that happened back in 2004, sad to see him go, but in the same breath, glad his suffering is finally overwith.

Sorry for your loss, sometimes it's for the best.

About your HHR we might not have the most miles on ours but I do think we have two of the earlyest build dates on this forum ! Looks like we came on here the same day.

If something bad could happen to a person's body, Randy would discover it. Back in the early 80's he fell off a scaffel and broke his lower back. In the early 90's he was rear ended by a street racer and broke is upper back and neck. Then in 2004 he was working in sheet metal, a section of an aircraft wing that someone else was running through a plainer jammed, he was talking to someone else, when this happened. The section ****ed and caught him in the groin and drug him down a wall about 20 yards and then basically threw him. Needless to say, it did a lot of internal damaged and he got progressively worse over the remaining years. It's hard to look at someone his age, full back brace, walking with a cane. His body went through a lot of damage. It just finally took it's toll.

He's better off now. He left behind 2 kids and 1 grandchild. They are holding up fairly well.

Solman-

Sorry to hear of the loss. But I guess you are right, no more pain for him..

It's those left behind that have to suffer the loss.

Sorry about the loss. I just lost my dad a few months back. I know what you mean as my dad was paralized in 1968 he came back to walk with two canes and retired from Goodyear with over 30 years. He then had a stroke 7 years ago then lost a leg. He only had use of his left hand and was right handed. I know he suffered much and I miss him but with what he was going through I felt relived for him. I don't know how he could stand the nursing home for the last 7 years. I was greatful for th last years because we got a chance to say all the things we needed to in the end and have no regrett of anything we should have said. One thing I can say is he never complained about anything. I see these people today complain if they did not get this or that then I saw him and what he had to deal with and never complained a bit.

As for the noise could it be a bushing in the the front control arm? Delta platform cars like the Cobalt and HHR have been know for the bushing coming out on the front with about that many miles. It would make a noise under braking.

It's hard to believe it was one week ago I got that phone call at 4am. The pastor that spoke over the graveside service was my cousin. Haven't seen him in years. But it was nice that he was family. He was able to speak about the past, and he knew about it since his was there for a lot of it. He mentioned about once when Randy jumped railroad tracks with a 63 Chevy and had to basically cut the trunk off and drove for a long time with the frame and gas tank only sticking out the back. I had totally forgotten about that. The tings you do when your youg and stupid...lol

As for the noise. Didn't do it again last night or this morning on my way to work. I'll keep and ear out for it again. Didn't think about the bushing. Last time I checked them several thousand miles back, but were still good. But might be time to revisit that area again.

Thanks for the though everyone. I just hope his kids get threw the holidays ok.

My ss will get a grown in the AM on the front bushings if it is cold and damp after sitting all night. It goes away and I may not hear it for a good while or even months. I seem to hear it in damp 40-30 degree weather. I think it is just a temp where the urathane bushings just get a little noisy with the dampness.

Yea, I have gotten the cold weather sound before. But it was warm and dry that day and I had just gotten back from the Atlanta airport, so needless to say, everything was warmed up....
