As is supposed to occur, when the car is not running and you open the driver door, the interior lights come one and the odometer reading displays for a short period. Lately I have noticed that the radio controls also light up but no other lights on the dash do (gauges etc.). I truly can't say I ever noticed this before and maybe it is normal and has always been happening but now that it gets dark earlier, I am seeing it. But I was wondering if others have this happen or maybe it is related to the TSB work I had done on the radio for poor reception?

So anyone else have radio buttons on the head unit light when the driver door is open and car is not running? I could find nothing in the manual, just on entry lighting and odometer.

i noticed it on mine, when i asked the dealer they said that was normal

 

I get in and out of my HHR. Seriously the same thing happens on my HHR.

 

Funny, same thing happens on my wife's Infiniti.

 

Okay, now I'm curious. I'll check it out on the way to work.. and when I get home when it's dark.

 

My radio lights flash too... The first time I thought I was seeing things...

 

Never noticed the radio lights. But the radio turns off, along with my hard wired radar dector, and fog lights if I leave them on (aftermarket).

 

What comes on:
-radio control lights
-climate controls
-odometer flashes for five seconds
-under-mirror map lights
-dome lights, including cargo area (now that I found the switch and turned them on)

Seems to be a normal dealie.

 

I noticed the same thing as well.

I initially thought it was electrical gremlins, but it happens consistently.
