Windshield
Hey, I just bought my HHR like 3 weeks ago and I have a pretty large crack in my windshield. Bssically right down the middle. It's a pressure crack and because I am well under the 60,000 KM (for the Canadian folks), I am covered under GM's comprehensive warranty. So, it's all good that way. I took it into the dealership where I bought it and I am getting the windshield replaced in a few days
But, has anyone here experienced a cracked windshield like this? It might be a recurring issue with this car. Otherwise, the HHR is an awesome vehicle and I love everything about it :)

Welcome and Greetings!! I don't think its an endemic issue that you're referring to, a crack like that usually occurs due to an big temperature differential(extremely cold temperatures outside, crank up the defroster, and crack!). It will happen, but not very often, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I don't know what you mean by "right down the middle", but my crack started just above the rear view mirror and proceeded downward.
I attributed it to stress from raising one front corner of the vehicle - at least I noticed it after that work. However, it could have started sooner as it was in its early stages hard to see behind the mirror.
I did not have any severe heat or cold issues.

Speaking as a ten year experienced auto glass tech, windshields don't just crack without a reason.
Stress cracks can happen but only when the factory skimped on the sealant and the glass has sank down onto the pinchweld or a moulding is putting pressure on the edge of the glass. Since HHRs don't have mouldings it's more likely an impact crack, i.e. a stone has hit the windshield. When a stone hits a windshield near the very edge where the sealant is, the glass cracks. Everywhere else it forms a star or bullseye in the glass. Trace the crack from the edge and look for a tiny pit in the crack, that would be your impact point. If no pit anywhere along the crack then more likely a stress type crack.
If your dealership is paying for it that's a great savings for you.

My windshield has been cracked for over a year - the crack is right down in the driver's view, and started with a rock hit and just grew bigger over time. I just checked with AAA and they quoted me at $401 to replace the windshield!! I'm trying to check with my insurer to see if there is any coverage. I looked on line and found a website that lists this:
So why is the HHR cost so high??
Replacing windshields range from$157 to $324 for passenger cars; $164 to $290 for SUVs; $164 to $310 for pickup trucks; and $174 to $294 for minivans.
