Winshield replacement problems

Hello everyone,
I'm new here so I hope I'm using the right forum. I love my HHR, but I've had a nightmare of a time getting my winshield replaced. I'm currently on #4 which also will be going back due to leaks. The first one stuck out too much in the middle and had bad wind noise. The second one leaked and still stuck out in the middle. They then tried factory originals , but these have been no better. Anyone else have similar problems?

If it's leaking it wouldn't be because of the windshield but improper installation or blowing the seal by not leaving the side windows down while it properly adheres. I have a PPG replacement and have had no problems. The glass quality, strength, and craftsmanship seems to be a lot better than the OEM and as an added bonus it can be ordered with a tint strip across the top. My guess is whoever you have installing the windshield sucks at it!

Bravo CH ! You took the words right out of my mouth (fingertips actually)

You need a new glass shop with trained technicians.

Sorry.don't know the brands. Was told there were only 3...original and 2 after markets(up here in Canada anyway). The gm ones apparently are packed poorly. They're wraped in a way that seems to change the shape of the seal. The after markets were the wrong camber and were bowed too much. I'm starting to think mine came from the factory wrong.

I have the PPG with tint strip too. It was installed with no problems. I did leave the windows cracked for a few days just to be safe.

Size: 5.6 KB to the site!!! Were all of them installed at the same location? If so, you need to find a new shop.

POOR installer.

Look in the bottom corner of the window, for the name of the manufacturer. I'd be interested to know who made it.

I also BELIEVE the seal kit is packed separately from the window AND is another separate order number. I bet your installer is not using a GM AUTHORIZED installation kit. Probably something else to minimize cost. I also believe GM has a tech bulletin on this AND is VERY SPECIFIC about the materials used. I'll see if I can find it.

I'm thinking of getting a new windshield....on the road I get this noise that sounds like one of those plastic tubes you whirl above your head and they make that noise.....

I'm wondering if they messed up the install at the factory as well...no leaks (where at least afaik) but a noise...if the dealer can't fix it will probably be bye bye Chevy

I too have the PPG with the tint strip. Love having the tint strip and haven't has any problems either.

PPG makes two. Installer brought one w/o strip first and had to go back to shop to get one with strip.

I just thought about this. Has the installer been adding a strip of tape across the top of the window after installation to keep the wind from forcing it's way through the top of the seal when you drive home? If you look at the top of the windshield there is a gap that catches air real easy and would quickly wreak havoc on the seal before it fully adheres.
