Hi im new to the forums and would like to know how to repair my air intake duct known as the wooly worm. Mine is torn apart and I do not want to spend $80 to replace it.

Is there a cheaper fix? Could i go to home depot and make me one? Any advice would be great thx!!!!

You might also check at RockAuto, or give reparing it a shot with duct tape or Gorilla tape.

Isn't this about the third time someone has introduced themselves with "wooly worm" this year?

Cheapest way is get some mylar duct tape, not DUCK tape and wrap the coils. Never use a pressure washer under the hood of these cars next you will be noticing the firewall insulation has disappeared. Even chemicals and a hose will tear the paper felt to shreds.

I had the vehicle for 7 1/2 years and never referred to the intake duct as that........

I fixed mine today with a perfect replacement lit from Spectre Performance at Oreillys. Web site said $20 but when they rang it up it was only $18!! I used the original clamp for one end and the other end went into the car snug. Awesome!

Taped my ripped one with A/C alum foil tape, works pretty well.

I’m waiting till spring, I have some dryer tubing left over from the dual air intake set up I did on Oldblue.

There’s a guy on the HHR Facebook pages who sells used ones pulled from yards for $50 on EBay.

I grabbed a used on at a yard for $2 and good thing, because mine tore about two weeks later. The used ones can be fragile. It didn’t tear, really; the adhesive holding the felt spiral let go. I’ll try to glue it after deciding on the best stuff. Maybe epoxy, maybe something else that will both flex and resist heat.

There are plastic aftermarket numbers but they are noisier - the fuzzy dampens the noise. If mine tore I would consider glue and high-temp to be a better option.

If mine tears again I’ll probably just lighten my wallet with the brand-new correct OEM part.
