The SDM needs to be in the car to be initialized, if you are talking about a new one. I don't think GM is going to revivify one, eBay will.

I'm not sure about the way it is written in the FSM, but you may not have to worry about the SDM. The book seems to say it does not self-destruct until there are 3 distinct events. I would try it to save $.

The car will function normally without it, just have airbag warnings.

Well maybe worse then planned. We got her home today. You can see where the lady drove over the car.. Ill get better pics soon to of the rest. But it looks like she may have damaged the frame right behind the bumper support. Not really gonna touch much of the car till all insurance has been taking care of, but definitely gonna get some more pics and try to figure out what all needs replaced.

Was hoping that would not be the case.

Looks like a fender and bumper cover, you can always measure the sub frame for square.

Kind of funny, when the wreck happened fire dept handed me a 30amp fuse. Said here is the main fuse so it wont run... At the moment I didnt think anything about it. Well we got to the storage yard where the car was, the key they took with them, was stuck in ignition and no power. "oh yeah the fuse"... open the electrical box, no fuse missing.. battery has power, so no dead battery
after about 5 mins, i realized they pulled the fuse to the new hid kit that was installed thinking it was the main. and then the tow truck company loosened the nuts on both power poles so there would be no power.. re-tightened the nuts, hid fuse and pulled the fender out of the tire, drove it home!

had to laugh though, all of our fire fighters are older men, you would think they would know a aftermarket fuse vs factory installed, laughed even more when my dumb arse was looking in the fuse box for the missing fuse.

ill be checking the same frame, and a few other things. the top radiator support is angled now. inner plastic fender cover was shattered and gone. frame that connects the bumper support is smashed.

but engine, tranny, electrical etc all seem to be good.
