Hmm, I was stationed there in the 70's.
I had to get out of there because of my allergies. All the agriculture with the Walnut Groves, the Pecans and just something in the air there just didn't agree with me. I am on vacation then, I just may put this one on my calender. I believe that will be about a 4-hour drive though. I might have to get a motel in Merced or Atwater the day before and that night.
Put me down as a strong possible to show up.

SoCal HHR's... Step Up!!!
That would be Great if you could make it! This event is kind of like the NorCal's HHR Clubs version of the Tom's g2g! Although there is not the same in amount of eateries, parking and enthusiasum abound! I will send out a pm to several SoCalers in hopes to create a SoCal g2g thread and lock in this date for your clubs participation!
The date on this is also a plus for any HHR enthusiast as it occurs on a 3 day weekend on the 2nd day! Located in the Central Valley this can be done all in a day from most parts of Cali leaving the following day for R & R! Here's hoping you SoCalers can bring all of your enthusiasm to our NoCal event!

Count me in. By the way Papa_Smurf, those are almonds, specifically Northern Merced Softshell Almonds. There are also many acres of peaches in the area, both Cling and Freestone. I used to live in the area and drove a school bus up and down Santa Fe Drive, the road the former Castle AFB fronts on.
