I'd say the latter, especially when one of your buddies thinks he dropped said nut down the throat of one of the carbs. Nothing like pulling out of line to jerk the intake manifold so you can find the missing nut, which isn't in the engine after all....its in the moron's left shirt pocket!
That was 25 years ago and I still don't let him forget it.
