I just got a ‘08 SS (128k miles) two weeks ago and although it’s running great, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to add an aux transmission fluid cooler to help keep the trans live for as long as it can.
i live in phoenix, AZ, so the summer heat is pretty brutal.....

 

I wouldn't bother unless you tow a lot.

 

Yeah. Trannys are pretty bulletproof in the HHR's across all engine platforms.

 

The auto trans is pretty much bullet proof from what we have seen here. It's probably not necessary, but what the heck if it's a long term car for you, why not.

 

Even with an SS and wanting to add a tune?

 

The auto? Yes. Some may say its beefier than the manual...... :O (triggered)

I have recently purchased an SS (2008, 128K miles, automatic)
and planning to add a tune.

I was wondering if any of you with ss’s with automatic and tune have added aux tranny cooler or just running everything stock otherwise....

i dont plan on any further upgrade (on HP/TQ) than just a 91 pump gas tune.

I know the tranny is the weak link in the power train, so I’m thinking to add an aux cooler but wondering if it’s just not needed??

I did have one on my LT because of my frequent long haul drives. 3-4 times a week over 500 mile round trips.
