Brake Hardware

I am in the process of replacing the pads on all four brakes. I have 50,000 miles on my SS and the front pads are done. I am putting on a set of EBC Red pads. My question is has anyone expericed problems buying new pad clips and caliper pin boots? I tried to buy some at my local Napa store but they could only get the rears. No number for the fronts. The rears dont really look right so I am not going to use them. I checked with the dealer and you cannot buy the brake hardware seperate. You can only get it when you buy the GM pads. I guess I am going to reuse my original pad clips and boots, but I really wanted to replace them since I was spending money on brakes anyways. G.B.

Unless you have the Brembo which may be totally different in the way the pads fit, there are no clips on the front. Pads are keyed in place. There are also no real sliders for the calipers. It all just bolts together.

Maybe we are talking different lingo. My 08' SS does not have the Brembo's. I have all four brake assemblies apart as I am also painting the calipers and the rotor hubs. All four calipers use floating guide pins with boots and stainless clips that snap into the caliper frames for the pads to ride in. These are the parts I wanted to replace. Thanks, G.B.

I though the non Brembo equiped SS had the same front calipers and the regular HHR. Sounds like I heard wrong. Hopefully someone else will chime in for ya.

See that is what is weird. The pads are the same for an SS and the regular HHR on both the front and rear. Thanks solman98. G.B.

In your sig, it says you have LSD. It comes with the brembos. No brembos=no LSD, unless you do it yourself.

Nope, 2008's with out Brembos did have LSD. Mine does because the Brembos were a seperate option later so mine has the regular calipers on the front. But I think maybe 09 and 10's you had to have the Brembos and LSD.

Just unbolt the caliper, throw the new pads in there and bolt it back up. If the new pads don't have the clips reuse the old ones they will be fine.

Just make sure you scuff up the rotors if you are not replacing them or they will squeal.

Also put a little of this on the back of the pads.

Regardless of the Brembo-Non Brembo issue. Although I haven't changed pads yet I would think the clips would come with them. The boots are part of the caliper and could possibly be obtained from that vender> A good parts house( not your fast food style)could help with that.I'd be interested in what you find out- good luck

I have not had mine appart yet but if you need clip the dealer should stock them if they had them. They are cheap and fit most GM cars since that Caliper was used on many different GM cars.
