Clutch Questions

Hey all!

My 08 SS has the stage one kit in it and around 80,000km (50k miles) on it. I currently have it in the dealership to get the slave cylinder replaced under warranty (the clutch was sticking to the floor on start up and for about the first 5 minutes of driving).

I'm debating on replacing the clutch at this time as well (and save the 8h labor charge). I've only run into slippage once in the 2 years of owning this car (4th gear on the highway) so I'm pretty sure the OEM clutch is sufficient even with the stage 1 kit. The mechanic has said that the pressure plate could also be at fault with the clutch sticking.

Think its a good idea to go ahead the get the clutch?

*UPDATE*

Well the slave cylinder was leaking pretty badly, so its definitely the culprit. Still, do you think I should do the clutch?

Unless you just want to upgrade your clutch, I wouldn't think you would want to spend money when it's not needed. They do not pull the clutch assembly out when a master cylinder is replaced.

Well the transmissions out of the car so I was dithering on it. All things considered though it isn't really necessary at this point. The clutch itself is fine so I'll leave it be.

Out of curiosity, I was told that the slave cylinder is inside the transmission, is this true? Or is it just really inaccessible.

Yep, you are correct. I don't know why I was thinking a master cylinder. So your cost would be parts. Have you looked at it?

No, not personally but I trust the dealership (my dad works at it) and they say the original clutch is in good condition as it is.

There are only 50000 miles on it, and I'd say 70% of them are highway. All in all I should at least be able to ride out the lease on the car. I maybe keeping it in the end though, its a great ride.

Parts would be around $500 Canadian all told, that's just the ballpark figure they gave me.

You think replacing it is a good idea anyway?

I wouldnt swap it out unless its slipping bad. YOu said it happened a couple times in the highway. It will slip if youre in 4th at like 40 and hit it no doubt. Be in a lower gear bud or a higher speed n u will be fine.
