You need and OBDII scanner to read codes.

Weird...with my Z06 I can manipulate the brake pedal and a couple info buttons and pull up the engine codes and clear them if need be. Figured the HHR may have a similar method due to the digital info display on the instrument panel.

You could also install an Aeroforce gauge that can read and clear the CELs that may pop up.

If you have an Auto Zone close by they do the OBDII scan free!
