Engine Idle/Brake Question

Ok, I've been looking on the forums. I have a 2009 HHR SS Panel with 100k. As far as I know its stock.
1. I've noticed that when I first start up I hear a sound that if I didn't have a turbo, I would think is a bearing going out, except its more "wooshier" sounding. Is this the turbo?
2. Sometimes, after the first start of the day, the idle isn't stable. It seems to fluctate a couple hundred rpms between 700-1000 until it warms up. Common?
3. How do I tell if my car has the brake fix that I've been reading about on it?
4. Related to the brakes, they squeal pretty bad. I've got the paperwork from the dealer showing new rotors and pads 4000 miles ago. Is this common?

Thanks everyone!

nx72905. Two questions.
Is yours an automatic or 5 speed?
Do you have the Brembo brakes option?

Gonna try and answer some of your questions.
1. The SS's have that odd noise when you first start it cold. Usually quiets down after 20-30 secs. Mine has done it since new. I guess you would call the "bearing whine sounding noise" normal.
2. Not sure about your idle problem. Could be any number of things but it doesn't sound normal.
3.Brake fix. I don't have it because mine is a 5 speed. The fix would have the small aux pump installed(mounted down low in front of the oil pan I believe)
4. Brakes squealing. Not normal. Have them checked. note: Brembos are known to squeal a little sometimes. I realize you don't have Brembos.

5.GM Turbo Upgrade. 3 easy things to look for:
The sticker inside the fuel door should say Premium Fuel Required (Recommended is on the stock sticker)
There could be a white sticker under the hood that says: GM Performance Parts
The Tmap sensors will be changed from GM ones to Bosch. They will have a blue colored Bosch sticker. The top sensor is easy to see. On top side of the engine, atop the intake area. Between the air filter housing and the radiator.

Hope this helps.

Hey rainman, I live in anacortes, so I guess im in the area! Lemme know when and where.
1. It does quiet down after a min or so, so I guess that's it.
2.the idle is really occasional. Of course when I tried to show someone it didn't happen.
3. Ill take a look this weekend. Does anyone know if chevy will still do it for free if I don't have it?
4. Ill have the brakes checked soon, its at first, and really annoying.
5. I don't have the stage 1 then. Fuel door is reccommended.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Mine idles weird alot. I normally sit around 1k but can go to 700-1200. Depends on filter, air temp, etc. With 100k, might be time to clean a few things, iac, throttle plate etc...

Mine will "hiccup" every now and then too, nothing unusual as its, well, had a few vehicles that did this ..most likely gas...maybe water...try some Seafoam or Berrymans B12 in the tank.
But B Diggity, 100k, have you done any tune up type maintenance? Plugs..top end cleaner..air filter..?
