I brought it in for a coolant leak, they said the hose was rubbing and wore through.

I asked them to check the hard brake pedal on cold start problem. They wrote on the receipt "Technician cannot verify customer's concern". What do I do now?

They're keeping it overnight again and will check again tomorrow, but I detected a distinct lack of enthusiasm on the part of the service rep. I've noticed the issue since new but it never really bothered me but with my wife driving the car more now and saying "OH MY GOD, THE BRAKES DON'T WORK!!!" in the morning, I thought it would be a good idea to have it done.

Most times it is over night the will make it happen and show up in the first drive of the day.

Look up the TSB for this in the the TSB thread. Copy it and take it to them. It is a common issue on all auto HHR SS. It will not cost the dealer a thing to fix it as it is a warranty issue.

The added Vac pump solves the issue plain and simple. Point out to them that it is now a OE item on all auto SS built after Jan 2009. Same for the 2.0 Solstice and Sky.

They'll find it in the morning.
Please keep us posted.

Um, what Hyperv6 said.

Odds are you have something else going. The TSB issue is only going to happen in the first min or two it runs.

Also unless you SS ws built in Dec 08 or before it already has the pump.

'10 stick with Brenbo's here and never an issue. However, I always let it idle off the startup map until the ignition timing comes back in. You will hear the exhaust note change to a quieter tone.
I try be be nice before the beatings resume
I too had no need for the power upgrade but I enjoy the heck out of it.

Any SS after Jan 09 should never have the issue as they have the pumps from the factory. Also this was only a Auto issue and the sticks were not effected.

This is why it took GM so long to fix the issue is that it was also going to be a factory fix and not just a dealer fix. It effected all 2.0 Automatics and they needed to address it.

FWIW I asked ChevyMgr about this in a PM long ago since my '09 SS was built in 3/09. Long story short- any auto SS built around that time and afterwards has the auxiliary pump from the factory. Essentially, any AUTO SS built prior and up to 2/09 should make sure they have the auxiliary vaccuum pump fix done.

Question I have the 2009 HHR SS automatic

It has nothing to do with the Turbo Up Grade at all.

Nothing to worry about. If the SS you find does not have the TSB pump repair then take it to the dealer and they will retro fit it for free.

The pump is standard on all automatics after Dec 08 or Jan of 09.

Once it is repaired it is no longer an issue. The problem happened on all 2.0 Turbo's even in the Sky and Solstice.
So as far as I can tell, no one that has owned my HHR had ever had the brake booster problem fixed. I thought that they actually did’nt come with one, not positive about that but I can find it on the HHR and I took it to a dealer and they had no idea what i was talking about and wanted to charge me $120 bucks just to check it out. Anyways, I thought it was something i could install or replace myself but have no idea where it goes. I have a new brake booster ready to go. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The TSB does not require replacement of the brake booster. It is about adding a vacuum pump on early 09 and all 08 SSs with automatic transmission.

Are you having an issue with your brakes?
