Looks like I'm getting ready to pull the tranny

Dealership is installing a new engine and turbo. They said the flywheel is cracked and need to be replaced for 1100 bucks with no labor involved (since engine is already out). I declined the repair since I figured I could get a flywheel clutch and slave for the same price or cheaper. During my Swift GT days I was no stranger to pulling fwd trans, I'm not worried about the work.

Does this older quote I found still hold true?

GM stock flywheel 12612794 is 509.54 and a spec aluminum is about a 100 bucks cheaper. I never drove a car with one and have read they are finicky for DD use. Same true with our cars?

What is this flywheel?

It lists an LNF option for the same price.

Is this the one some of you guys are buying or the 500 dollar one?

Thanks.

No experience with a "modern" vehicle equipped with an aluminum flywheel, but based on my old hot rodding days, they can be touchy/finicky on the street.

That being said, the lower rotational mass will let the engine rev faster from idle, but that same lack of mass lets the revs decay rapidly between shifts making for "rough" behavior at less than agressive throttle openings.

I think since I'll be doing some drag racing with ET Streets, i'll go with the stock flywheel. Just don't know if guys are getting the one for 500 bucks or the 120 dollar one from ZZP I posted the link to.

Swapped out the flywheel, clutch and TOB. The 120 buck flywheel from ZZP is the exact one I pulled out. I couldn't find a crack on my old flywheel though, wonder what the dealership is trying to pull. I may spray it with dynaflux to see. The stage 3 clutch and the new TOB feels soft but it does work.

Let us know what the Dynaflux showed, and be sure to show the dealership that there are no cracks in the flywheel. and keep it as a spare
