Manual Tranny Oil???

What is the correct weight and best Manual Transmission oil to use.? How many qts. are needed to refill?

AutoZone worker said Royal Purple was the best but could not tell me what weight to use or how much.

Thanks

i would use nothing other than the GM fluid.... it is a special syn that has been designed for the f35 tranny. there should not be any need to change it for a long time I would say some were around 60K or more

MU3 trans in the SS uses this fluid. Because all characteristics need to be matched to the synchros etc, I would be reluctant to use anything other than this. It is a synthetic Castrol trans fluid that I could not find here under the Castrol label.

Thanks for the info guys.

Will I need oil if I'm having the Spec3 clutch installed. I wanted to be ready with a couple of quarts just incase it gets dumped for this job.

Steve, when can I bring it in for you to install for me? LOL I know, too far.

Ya you will need to drain it and it will take 2 quarts to fill....to make life easier break loose the fill plug on the top while the tranny is out....I will be more than happy to help if you want to take a trip here.

Thanks for the offer and I'm sure it would of been cool working on this with you, but Total Travel Estimate: 17 hours 5 minutes / 1091.83 miles is is not just around the corner.

Aye, they want to charge me between 650 and 700 for the install of the spec3, what do you think of this price? I got to quotes.

Well I would guess book time on the job is some where around 4.5-6 hours so what ever the shop charges a hour. That is going to be pretty standard the thing that sucks is if you know what you are doing it only takes about 3 hours to do, If you were really busting your ass you and a friend could do one I bet in 2 hours, but with our shop race car (similar drive train) me and the boss have got pretty good at changing them

Does anyone sell a repair manuals for the HHR SS? It would be nice to have one to make sure things go a little smoother if I decide to do it myself. I'll poke around to see what I find, but if you can point me in the right direction it would be cool.
