Mobil 1 question
#21
While Amsoil is probably a great product, I think they should stop misleading people about it's capabilities/qualities. And it continues to perpetuate becomes users just DO NOT understand what they are reading, and espouse all the unproven and fictitious qualities. If it's a good product it should stand on it's own merit, without adding misleading editorial or lying about it.

Well, No I don't know anyone here personally, but we all know what oil looks like. For me, my father is a veteran in mechanics. Do your own test; I have. Put what ever oil you want in your car or any car. Put Mobil 1,Royal Purple,Castrol,Valvo,Quacker State etc. "If you are familiar with oil 'like most are claiming on here' then you should be fine." When you drain your oil from your car, THERE IS A HUUUUGGGEEEE differance in 3000 mile old oil than 15,000 mile oil. You basically can compare 15,000 oil to waters viscosity. I don't care what oil you run in your vehicle, your oil's viscosity WILL break down with heat and friction. And, you can blind fold my old man and he will tell you an older oil by touch and smell. Yes, they have vehicles out there that will warranty there engines for 100,000 miles and no oil change; you just have to see what is going in there. Pretty cool stuff. Oil and filter man, don't wait to CHANGE THEM.
Some may recall the tall tale sign when to change your oil without looking at the stick or seeing smoke. "Remember the tick, tick, tick, tick coming from your engine." Yep you viscosity has left!!!!" Motors have change, Not so much for the oil.

Though I agree with you that it is the wording that misleads some into buying a product based on advertising if you do a little research you will find that the SAE and API specs are designed to keep superior oils off the market. Mobil pays GM to put that cap on the SS! Do you really think that GM would put Mobil 1's number 1 competitor on a 'approved' list?

But Tominator....
Your current statement has nothing to do with my accusation and your original statement that Amsoil EXCEEDS every manufacturers specification. Now you are "hinting" the manufacturers spec is not necessary after you said it exceeded it. So does it exceed it or not and why if it's not necessary, do you and others claim it exceeds the standard?
The highlighted part.....what a bunch of bunk. Sounds like a "vast right wing conspiracy" (or left wing, depending on what you believe) theory, and we all know where they come from. That kind of statement is usually used as an "out" when no worthy argument can be placed. A conspiracy....INDEED.
You bet Mobil pays GM for the oil cap on many of their vehicles. GM also subrogates engine rebuild expenses, to Mobil, if the damage was do to the oil. And you know the millions of vehicles that is rebuilt each year, do to this (tongue in cheek). Of course, Amsoil also makes this claim, and if I was informed correctly, they have the same record.
The number one competitor statement is also a laugh. IF Amsoil is the chief competitor it is a very distant competitor since Mobil 1 comes as factory fill in many GM vehicles as well as some of the competing vehicles. That counts for 10's of millions of gallons alone and not even considering the off the shelf purchases. And remember these are supplied through mass merchandising, not some internet pyramid pricing scheme.
GM not putting Amsoil "on the list" because it's a competitor. They list 9 other competitive synthetics that meet the requirement. That 9 MUST out produce, in total, the quantity that Amsoil provides, on an annual basis.
Again I'm not arguing the worthiness of Amsoil, it is a fine oil. I'm arguing the misleading representation and the perpetuation of that misrepresentation.
And it appears you are providing assistance to that perpetuation. If you can show me where I'm wrong, I'll write a full apology.
Thanks for the debate !

Amsoil is good for high heat motors....where good old Harley oil would float a zero press at idle on a hot day,Amsoil always kept the needle at 20..( those that don't know Harleys don't panic at the zero note..thats press not flow...)the 0wt30 comes highly recommended if you chose to use it in the SS...though for generally day to day driving M1 is just fine....all depends on how deep your pockets are...( Ive actually gone back to M1, extended service, couldn't justify the added expense.)
