Ive got 60k on my filter and its still clean...tap it out now and then..still has plenty a daylight shining thru..unusual. yeah..its stock....the routing of the intake and the fact it draws air from inside the fender eliminates alot of dirt you would normally pick up. Airbox is clean too..just painted it not too long ago..

 

So I have done a ton of reading on this pesky air filter thing. From what I gather, the basic problem is the air entering the intake will swirl when conditions are right. I have also read that the "honeycomb" will correct this sometimes. What I did today was compare the stock paper filter with my K & N replacement filter.

The difference (visually) is the metal mesh around the paper compared to the K & N which doesn't have this pattern.

I have this stupid idea, I am going to try to re create the same airflow pattern with some gutter guard. If it works, then I am a genius, If not then you all can call me what ever names you feel the need to
