aftermarket wheels without TPMS

I have installed my "summer wheels" but I did this without the sensors. My question is "Why does the cars computer system say I have tire pressure when my wheels DO NOT have the sensors for the TPMS? I can go sometimes up to 100 miles before the system realizes there are no sensors and then says I have 0 tire pressure. When I take the car to the dealer they tell me I have to put the factory wheels on so they can check the system. But if a computer does not have a sensor it should not read one. Can some please explain my False Readings.

Do you park by the wheels that the programmed sensors are in?

Yeah, sure sounds like you within range of your unused but still functional TPMS sensors in your winter wheels. Try moving them someplace else in relation to the vehicle and the issue should go away.

Oh almost forgot, to the forum rocdoc2112!

summer wheels

While i keep my winter wheels about 100 feet away from my HHR when its parked at home. Now I have my factory wheels back on and only 3 of them actually show I have air pressure. Also on the same note at the false readings my temp reading is about 8 to 10 different then the real outside temp. Yes I know about the whole algorithem thing. And another false reading is the distance to empty when the MPG ave says above 25, with a full tank of gas the DTE say 330 miles. I somewhat remember basic math and 30 MPH and 16 gallons usually mean 480 miles to empty......

Just a question...why wouldn't you swap the sensors or buy a set for the new wheels?

I was having a similiar problem last winter when I installed studded snow tires on Malibu wheels for the winter. The display irritated me all winter as well as the "jingle" when I started the car up. When I parked by a car at work with sensors, I would drive home with a "reading" on the tires on that side, then on the drive home, the sensors would re-adjust and alarm would go off again. Solved the problem when I bought a set of sensors off Ebay vendor for $95, $25 more for installing and re-balancing. I made sure I put the summer tires in the basement away from the HHR so eliminate any false readings.
