Does anyone know how hard it is to remove the sensors from a stock 16" oem rim and install them on aftermarket rims? How are they mounted?

Im curious too. I know they can be transferred to new wheels, but how? Are they attached to the wheel with screws or a nut on the valve stem?

Once the sensor is removed, the valve stem can be removed like regular one.

Sensor is actually two parts: valve stem and sensor. When shopping for wheels or tires, make sure the house doing the installation of the tires has valve stems in stock for the sensors. Mine didn't and had to go on a wild goose chase.

Also, make sure to let the tire tech know you have sensors in the wheels. You don't want them to old school the old stems by jerking them own to quickly deflate them; in doing so, they will ruin the sensors.

Sensor screws into the bottom of the valve stem inside the wheel after the stem is installed. Each stem comes with a new screw. It is recommended that the screw is replaced each time the stem is replaced.

I was charged an extra $20.00. YMMV, as always. That put $5/tire. At $80, that is $20/tire. Time for more shopping!

I ordered new wheels and tires from Tire Rack and had them install the sensors at the warehouse. I think I paid 40 each installed. They also balanced the tires after mounting. I do understand some alloy wheels require a different (longer I would think) tire stem.
