Full size spare question

Before I go and spend the money for the tire and wheel, will a full size spare fit down in the spare wheel well? I was looking at the mini spare GM gives us is and it does not thrill me. Was thinking about getting a stock wheel and tire and carrying that instead. THANKS

I have never tried to mount a full size spare. I think the tire will fit but I don't think the factory mount will fit the tire. Look in your owners manual there are instructions on what to do with the full size flat tire when the spare is on

Check the compact unit in place to see if there is some additional room if needed.
Then I would think you could just take some measurements of the compact unit and compare to your tires on the car. Circumference and OA width/height
You also might just measure the spare tire opening size & height first to see if it is even close.

Why don't you just take a wheel off and try it out? Pretty easy to do. Then you know for sure.

Yep. Got one of those midget donut spares. AND, it won't fit on the front with my Brembos!
If I get a flat on the front, I have to put the spare on the rear and take the good rear tire and put it up front where the flat was. Have to change 2 tires for 1 flat.
I'm seriously thinking about getting a full size spare and just keeping it in the back cargo area. I always have the rear seats folded down anyway.

Hmmmm. Maybe on all SS's you have to do the spare tire shuffle.

From the owners manual:
Removing the Flat Tire and
Installing the Spare Tire (SS Model)
The SS Model has larger performance brakes than
the base model. The compact spare tire will not clear
the front brakes.
Do not use the compact spare tire in the event of a front
flat tire.
You must use the rear tire to replace the front flat tire.

They could have spec'd out a T125/70D17 donut spare for the SS's, that would have cleared the optional Brembo's and fit in the spare tire well.

But I suppose the bean counters won out over common sense, so the SS folks are stuck doing the "dance of the spare tire".
