Going bigger

somebody bathroom scale an 18 and a 16' setup...my curiosity is up now.. I upped my LS to a 17(Voxx) with connies and there was no slowdown. and I know they are close to if not more then the stock 18's,, my LS is pretty peppy though,,have no problem spinning them..

Every rim has a different weight. You can find 16's that are heavier then other 16's. Tires have this same issue. There is NO standard weight for a 16 vs a 17 vs a 18 etc etc. The weight will vary depending on material type, thickness and design, as well as forged vs cast.
Looking at tires even the same model tire can be lighter for the 18 vs a 16 in our sizes. My 20's, 225/35/20's, vs factory 16's, 215/55/16, seem to be the same weight for a given model of most brands I could find that had both sizes for that model. Then take into account going from one brand to a different brand and you can actually save weight goiung from 16's to any other size.
Edit: I just looked at my old wheels and the size was 215/60/16 and not 55 series. That makes the 16's heavier then the 20's for given tire models.
I weighed my old wheels and my Saturns 205/50/16's not apple to apple here but they came in at 41.5 for mine and 36 for the Ion's.

Not the point...it would be good to know the weights...ball park..I have 18's and 17's and they are real close to weight...Gotta lot more tire on my 17's and the rims are wider..and they are on a 2.2..so why did I not slow down?

I was not talking to you in that post. But again every rim and every tire have different weights. Then there is the rotational resistance caused by the tread pattern and the tires stickiness as well as how much contact. You and I expirienced the same thing in going bigger yet we did not have a decrease in acceleration. While Space and Sky both had a decrease.
It is a combo of both and my initial post that spurred these later posts by you and Space was to say that these are reasons and not a bigger as in taller diameter tire.

i think we should start scaling our wheels with tires and see where this leads...start with the 16 steel, then alloy 17s and 18s etc and then see what aftermarket has...I'll rip off a tire if other people want to join this quest

Haha my 16's from above are also wearing Generals lol. 41 for 16's and your SS wheels are possibly the same or less.
I have to change my oil in a couple weeks and will be doing my first rotate so I can weigh both my 20's and my Ion's 17's at that time.
I do remember when I put these 20's on I was expecting it to be slower but it wasn't. BUT for this scenario I believe it to be more of a rolling resistance lessening then the weight as I am sure my 20's do weigh a few pounds more then the 16's. But probably only 8-9lbs.
I also remember many moons ago going from BFG's to Kumhos on my Integra (same rims) and noticing a good difference in accel with the Kumhos (directional vs BFG's not) being better.

still sluggish after trying to "break" them in and doing lot of miles hoping car would adjust and no luck so far im on 18" SS rims wiht Michelin Pilot A/S Plus..i heard that you need to get the dealership or a tuner to change the computer reading so that the car knows that you went from 16 to 18"

Only if you changed the overall height of the tire/rim more than an inch or so.
The car doesn't compute the different rim sizes.16" or 18" won't matter. It's the height of the tire that matters. Taller tire= fewer revolutions= slower speedo.
Vice versa for a smaller tire.
You need to measure your old stock 16" tire height and compare it to your new 18" height.
Or use one of those tire size calculators on a tire store website. It can tell you the speedo difference between the 2.
If it's 2mph or less, I wouldn't worry about it.
