Minimum diameter wheel?

Minimum diameter wheel?
I'm looking to get a set of wheels for snow tires for my 2006 HHR 2LT, which presently has 17 in wheels and will very soon have the non-Brembo SS front brakes. For the sake of saving money on tires, can I get away with a 15 inch wheel on this car? In order to keep the odometer and speedometer accurate, I would use a higher profile tire, such that the diameter isn't all that different from the 17th I have now. My main concern though is that the wheels will clear the brakes. Is anyone been down this road before?

I moved your thread to the tires and wheels forum. Here's some good information

Oldblue, didn’t you once state that 16” LS steelies will fit over non-Brembo SS calipers?
For Winter on our LS, instead of the stock 215/55R16, we use 205/60R16. Slightly taller and narrower, so great for snow. Also seem to be easier to find, and the first time, we got them because they were cheaper, too. IDK why.
But I also found some nice Falken 215/50R17 all-seasons for less than $100 ea out-the-door. IDK why the 16s should be cheaper. Less material needed.
There is a local LS running around with 15 inch steelies, but stock brakes.
