Nitrogen Tire Inflation

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot, but there did not seem like a better place.

I was wondering if anyone else has done the nitrogen fill on their tires? I did it this week and noticed a slight improvement on the handling. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had any experience with it.

Pressure is pressure, just a waste of money.

Thumbs up Nitrogen tire inflation

I have used since 1973 in my 73 Pantera i had cruised at over 150 mph, have used in all my cars since, does not expand the molecules are larger so you dont lose much air, where i live they charge $7.00 per tire. go for it.

Wow. And I thought $.50 for air was a lot.

ps..have you ever seen the size of a molecule? It's small whether it's O2 or N2. They measure it in picometers. That's .000000000001 meters. If the tire is leaking, well, a molecule of nitrogen ain't gonna plug it.

even if they charge $7 a tire, air is free...

You can research online a lot and find arguments for both sides. However in my own opinion a lot of what you get with nitrogen is the placebo effect. You add it to your car and then your mind justifies that you were right and yes your car is handling better, getting better mileage, etc, when you could just be sub consciously driving better.

if your tire has 35 pounds of pressure in it, it has 35 pounds of pressure...

A Nissan dealer tried to sell this tire placebo to my mother for $40.00. She was smart enough to decline.

..... and air is 80% nitrogen anyway.

The only advantage I see, and this is extremely long term, is that the nitrogen is less than 2% relative humidity. Nitrogen is heavier than air, but unless you're working in a confined space that doesn't matter. Now if you're James Bond, and happen to find yourself under water and need the air from the tire to breathe, then you'd be in trouble.

I have all the 80% Nitrogen free in my garage anytime I need it.

This is just another way to bilk the public out of money and to keep their tire pressure monitors all the same and not change a pound during their drive.

The only people who really need this are mostly racers where if they gain tire pressure it can effect the handling of the race car. As for daily drivers I have better things to spend money on.

The green valve caps just marke the people who can be ripped off when they turn into a tire store. LOL!

The main reason I did it was that my pressure was changing daily from a range of about 28-36 psi or so and I was getting tired of messing with air pumps. It stays within about a 1 psi range now, which keeps the light from coming on and more importantly keeps the wife from telling me "something is beeping at me".
