Recommend me new tires - SS
I'm need ing new tires now. I really have liked the OE Michelins. I've done price searching online and found from $100 - $300 or more. I don't belive the low-ball and didn't even bother with the fine print. $148 with free shipping looks solid, but then I have to search for someone to mount them, take them there...
My wife wants me to go to the local monkees at goodyear because she has a credit card. I don't really want their teen mechanic of the week touching my car.
What tires, approaches should I consider?
Thanks for your input.

There was just a post about tires. I'm a fan of my Hankook Ventus V4 tires that i've had about 20k on my Lancer and now about 5k on my new SS. They're one of the only tires I could find that had good traction ratings and a reasonable warranty (50k miles)
I had Goodyear Eagle GTs on the Lancer before the Hankooks. They were AWESOME traction, but lasted little over a year....at 150+/tire installed that was wayyyy too short a life for a daily driver.
On the where to buy front, I dunno how much help I could be. I've used the same little mom and pop tire place since I got my first vehicle. I know their mechanics and the owner and they've always given me pricing comparable to tirerack.com and are cheaper on the install than the chain tire places around here. So my recommendation would be find a local place who wants your business, even if it's a dirty old school type place. Hell, I wasn't going to buy the Hankooks....they recommended them, I thought the reviews on tire rack didn't look all that great, so opted for some others...they ordered in both so I could see them when I went to get them installed.

I have been running the General Exclaim UHP tires and have had great performance out of them so far. I will probably get another set the next time they come up due.
Not sure if they would work for you as they are more of a summer tire, but I have had them in the cold and snow (even at highway speed) and they did pretty well all things considered. I got the entire set mounted for $425.

i just got a set of Goodyear Eagle GT's.... 225/45/18.... so far i love them.
that's very odd because a friend of mine with a 400whp turbo swapped Cobalt SS/SC has them and he's going on 2 years with them.... normal wearing and he drives it like he stole it.
www.discounttires.com had them $130 a tire when i bought them 2 weeks ago.

I'm wondering how much a lack of differential in the Lancer might have worn the tires out faster.
I bought the car with the Eagle GTs on it, they should have had about half life left on them, but it seemed like they wore down pretty quick. I was nervous about buying them again partially because of that and partially because they had no mileage warranty.

My original 18's (235/40) were Kuhmo ASX, which lasted 35,000 mi. Granted about 1/2 of those were while still N/A. I was happy with them.
Replaced with Eagle GTs. Great tire, great stick! Except that at only 18,000 mi. they are ready for replacement.
