Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstic rims?

Ok, stock tire sizes are
LS = 215/55R16 Tire Dia. = 25.3"
LT1/LT2 = 215/50R17 Tire Dia. = 25.5"
SS = 225/45R18 Tire Dia. = 26"
djr1973 has 225/45R18 but these are now on 8" wide rims instead of 7" rims so they should be lower than the 26" that the SS has on the 7" wide rims. How much I dont know.
HHRSSouth has 245/40R18 which measure some where in the neiborhood of 25.7" depending on rim width.
I would say that the 245/40R18s are what I am going to be going with as they fall more squarly between the range of the 25.3" tall 16" tires and the 26" tall 18" tires.

Actually his are wider, where yours are 225/45/18, his are 245/40/18. Now who's is taller is debatable as I have not done the math to find out which tire would have the bigger diameter. So this would pose another question. Since neither one of you are running the 215/45R18 that Chevy sells in the 18"x7" package, and djr1973 is running 225/45/18 with the 18"x8" Sky rims, and HHRSSouth is running 245/40/18 with 18"x?" rims. Who is the closest to keeping the speedo the same? 
Back with that answer in a bit, gotta do alot of math. 
djr1973, would using the 5/16" spacer and the longer studs(for more thread grip) you are talking about going with now have eleviated the need for you grinding on the parts that you did?

Its really just preference I like the more squared tire look.

I will be researching those figures on the Sky rims and the 18" optionals from GM as well so I can get a round about figure of what size i need to get, and I would prefer not to pull rotors/hubs just to change the wheel studs but I will if I have to. If there are atleast 6 threads that is enough for me. Not like we are at the drag strip and being required to have open ended lug nuts with 1/4" sticking out. Thought I would throw that in for you old schoolers.

You need to find out the wheel offset on the wheels your wanting and subtract that from your HHR factory wheel offset to come up with the correct spacer thickness. I think you will be ok if you only need a 5mm spacer or less with factory studs. 5 mm = 0.196850 "

So he needed more back spacing than the 1/8" he put on it, or was there just no way around grinding on the parts he did? You used SSR Type-C RS Anthracite wheels and not the Sky rims correct? or did you previously have Sky rims? and if you did previously have sky rims, how much did you space the rims?
I would have to agree on the Hub-centric spacer.

the bracket I ground is wleded to the strut housing, I only actually groung off about a 1/16 of an inch, by no means will this hurt or affect anything. I am a welder/fabricator for my profession, and if I thought it would be a problem by removing material I wouldnt have done it. I have done custom suspension on other vehicles includeing a custom 4 link suspension with air ride on a ford ranger, and have done suspension work on dirt track race cars. All I am trying to tell you is that if you dont use spacers with solstice/sky wheels, they will rub the sidewall of the tire on that edge of the bracket.
