Tire size question need opinions

Trying to look at my options for snow tires. Stock form me is 215/55-16 i have a possible option to buy a 235/60-16 blizzak for half the cost. What is the limit on width for these cars. Tire height does not seem an issue with these cars. So opinions please.

The tire diameter would be almost 2 inches taller, and would not fit in the wheel well, or under the strut. You have to stay with a tire with the same diameter to keep your speedo and odometer calibrated correctly or tune for different tire diameter. You can probably go a little wider, but not really taller.

You can try this calculator to see your choices.

I used the Firestone Winterforce on my last 2.2 powered hhr on all four corners with great results. I have run them on a few B-body caprices as well with great results.

I bought 205 60 16 Blizzaks , I think they are the size fits a Focus. I have used these for the past 3 winters and I love them. I have used Blizzaks on our 2 Fiero's and they were fantastic. I have Winterforce tires for my daughters Blazer Extreme and she is very happy with them.

Don't go wider with snow tires. It defeats their purpose. Stay with stock width or narrower, or you'll have less traction in the snow.

I dont really subscribe to that logic. Basically your improving gripping due to tire compound and tread design. Compared to whatss on the car anything is better. Narrow tires helps cut through deep snow but on an incline with this fwd pig id take a larger width any day. Since stock size for 16's does not have as many choices in snow tires compares to all season. You gotta be able to look outside the box. If money was not an option jd run hakkapelitta tires all day but 140-150the per tire is tough to do. Id like 80-100to max.
